Laura's Last Hoorah

This will be my 11th and last week as a camp counselor for Children's Cancer Connection. I've been so fortuante to see my campers overcome so many hurdles and get to the point of graduation. To celebrate, if I reach my goal of $10,000, my girls will spend an afternoon with snacks and sodas shaving my head. I'm so proud of the young women they have become and I attribute so much of that to this amazing camp that allows them to be themselves without any fear, doubt, or hesitation.

What is Camp?

I'm sad to say this will be my last year as a camp counselor for the Children’s Cancer Connection Oncology Camp. I want to go out with a bang so please consider donating to this AWESOME organization and program.

This amazing organization allows children with cancer to go to camp for an entire week for free! Throughout the week these kids get the chance to go swimming, zip-lining, rock-climbing, horseback riding, and get to just be a kid away from it all. They don’t have to worry about not fitting in due to scars or hair loss and are able to form friendships with kids who are going thru or have gone thru the same emotions as them. Children’s Cancer Connection doesn’t just offer these programs to children with cancer; they also offer their siblings a week of their own.

A little about the Children’s Cancer Connection…

Children's Cancer Connection was established in 1988 to provide programs and services to children battling childhood cancer. Quickly it was obvious that the disease not only affects the child but it also affects the entire family. Our programs and services have grown with that in mind.
Today Children's Cancer Connection offers a large variety of programs and services centered on our mission of enhancing the lives of families affected by childhood cancer by providing quality programs for education, recreation, and support.
Our Services include: Camps & retreats, Hospital-Based Programs, Support Services & Family Outings, and Survivorship Services.
Our programs and services are offered at little or no cost, and no one is ever turned away because of financial consideration. They are made possible by the generous support of hundreds of individuals as well as numerous service clubs, companies, and foundations. We receive no state or federal funding and are not part of the United Way.
We are successful because of the support of more than 25,000 hours of volunteer service every year. Our volunteers serve in many roles. They provide general office help, are program volunteers, child care providers during support groups, and camp staff at every level.

This will be my eigth year (11th week) being a counselor and the weeks spent at camp are filled with unforgettable moments. It takes $400 to send one camper to camp and this year I've got my heart set on sending 25 girls to the best week ever at camp! I am hoping that you will consider making a donation so that this is possible.
The best part this year? IF I reach my crazy goal and we raise $10,000 for camp I will be allowing my campers to shave my head. That's right, I'll be coming home bald to celebrate the graduation of my campers and all the hurdles they have overcome since I've known them and before.
Thank you so much for considering to donate to this amazing cause.
