Genevieve's Campership Challenge

Help make camp happen!

Hi! My name is Genevieve Pietruszynski and I am a 13-year cancer survivor. I love to dance and read. This year I was a part of my school's 8th-grade show choir, dynamite. I am also a percussionist and am a part of the school play. Camp Heart Connection is a camp for childhood cancer survivors, fighters, and later in the summer, there is a camp for their siblings. The camp supports kids who have had to go through terrible treatments. It also supports their siblings who have a hard time watching their brothers and sisters go through such a terrible illness. This camp is extremely important to me because I have made lifelong friends here. Camp heart connection is a place where kids like me can meet people who have had similar life experiences. My friends there relate to how I feel and know what talking about when I say things related to medical treatments. One of my favorite parts of camp is the camp dance. It is such a fun night where the whole camp is dancing together. We start the night off by all getting ready together, we do each others hair and makeup. Then we spend the rest of the night dancing away. Another one of my favorites is wish-night because we all share our stories and life experiences! We end up laughing and crying together. We are truly one big family and love and support each other. One of the coolest parts of Camp Heart Connection is that there is no cost for campers. The only way this is possible is by fundraising! Please help cancer survivors and their siblings go to camp. It is such a fantastic experience that really helps kids on both sides of cancer.
