Breast Cancer Stage 2B Triple Negative Adventure

Nicole completed chemo on May 7th!! She then had a short break before heading into her bilateral mastectomy on June 21st. The procedure went as planned and she made it through the 3 week recovery with the help of her very supportive husband Tom. Nicole began the reconstruction process just a short week and a half after her surgery. After long consideration she chose to go through with reconstruction. Choosing reconstruction her PS put in expanders under her chest muscles at time of her surgery. She then met with her PS's nurse weekly to get expanded fills. Normally fills don't start until 4 weeks put from surgery but Nicole was determined to get through fills as quickly as possible so she could get going with radiation. Fills generally range from 50-60 cc's at a time, but she went into beast mode and was doing 75-100 cc's a visit. *OUCH* She pushed through the pain with the hope she could start radiation before school was back in session. Nicole is a paraprofessional who works with special needs and behavioral support children. She is devoted to her school and her kiddos she works with. Unfortunately even with an early start she wasn't able to finish fills before school started and has needed to take half days in order to meet her radiation schedule. Radiation is an every M-F 5 week long ordeal. She is now over half way through but the loss of work due to the demanding schedule of treatments has only caused more stress and financial struggle. Even after radiation is complete Nicole will continue with a few more expander fills. Once completed she will then get a few weeks of recovery before she goes in for her exchange day surgery. With that surgery comes another 2 week recovery and this will all land right around Christmas. It is all necessary and been part of the plan from the beginning but it doesn't make the financial blow any less easy to take especially around the holidays. This crazy adventure still doesn't stop there. There are more minor surgeries and many more visits to monitor her over the next few years because her aggressive cancer is known for returning and spreading rapidly. Every little bit helps and the Fisher family greatly appreciates all the support in any and every way they've recieved it. We don't fight alone we fight together!!
