I am a 19 year breast cancer survivor.  I was diagnosed in December of 2000 with bi-lateral breast cancer  (lumps on both breasts).  Since I was living in California at the time, with the help of a great team of doctors at St. John's Medical Center in Santa Monica, California I received surgery led by one of the most outstanding surgeons who had pioneered the "sentinel lymph node" surgery for breast cancer.  This enabled tests to be run with dye on injecting the tumor and the dye flows to "sentinel" node avoiding removal of so many lymph nodes which can cause other problems.

My 85 year old mom is also a survivor as well as her sister (my aunt) and my cousin (my aunt's daughter).  My aunt and my cousin are 2 time survivors, so to say this has affected our family is an understatement!  I believe in the power of "early detection" and Family Health Partners offers the ability for screening to men and women who need that service and are without insurance or in need of financial assistance to have mammograms.  

I am blessed to have survived this experience and it has made me a stronger person and more committed to help others who are going thru it or have been touched by breast cancer.
