The call came in September of 2002. My 69 year old mother, Millie, had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of metastatic breast cancer. She passed away shortly after her 70th birthday in January of 2003. It was over in less than 5 months. We never saw it coming, and I miss her every single day!
I am walking to raise breast cancer awareness, and to contribute to the fight against this disease by encouraging everyone to have regular screenings, even if it's simply a self-examination! Breast cancer can affect the young, old and in-between. It also affects men.
I am very happy to know many survivors, but their roads have not been easy. Let's do our best to help make things as smooth as possible for those who are enduring treatment, and to provide the best treatment available to all who need it.
