About Minds Over Mountains

Cyclists hit the road from June 17-24, 2023 for a week of inspired riding through the most beautiful roads in Alberta via the Rocky Mountains. These dedicated supporters will ride 895 km to support the important mental health services that CASA Mental Health provides for children, youth and families in Alberta.

Embarking on an ambitious five-year roadmap in 2022, CASA Mental Health sees the sun rising on new opportunities to meet the needs of its many communities, including:

  • Doubling the number of kids we serve from approximately 4,000 to 8,000 per year
  • Expanding services in our own footprints and exploring online service
  • Going closer to where kids are, by working with community partners to find spaces in their facilities and organizations to provide service

With your help, we can improve child, youth and family mental health in Alberta!

Route Information

This 895 km, eight-day tour starts in Calgary and embraces the foothills in the Bragg Creek area before turning south into sweeping ranchlands and on to High River. Then it’s up and over the Highwood Pass, Canada’s highest paved road, and back down through Kananaskis Country and onto Bow Valley Trail. From there, cyclists steadily climb up from Canmore to Banff along the Legacy Trail bike path, then onto the spectacular Bow Valley Parkway until Lake Louise.

Cyclists then take a big uphill to the Bow Summit (the highest point on the Icefields Parkway) passing some of the most breath-taking mountain scenery in Canada. An exciting downhill ride takes them close to the headwaters of the North Saskatchewan River where they turn east toward the Kootenay Plains/Abraham Lake region behind the Bighorn Dam.

The mountain terrain is slowly replaced by gentle, rolling hills as the tour hits Rocky Mountain House. Then it’s due northeast along the straight roads of farm country through Rimbey, Ponoka, Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin to the finish in Sherwood Park.

Supporting Indigenous-Informed Care

This year's tour will support CASA’s Indigenous Wellness Support Program.

CASA provides Indigenous-informed mental health care for children, youth, their families and community residing on their Nation or in Edmonton. This care looks at concerns from a holistic Indigenous lens and includes the importance and spiritual significance of relationships and connectedness. It also incorporates traditional healing practices, a deliberate effort to decolonize mental health care and a deep understanding of the historical and intergenerational trauma that exists within Indigenous communities.

We want to express our appreciation to all of you that continue on the journey of Truth and Reconciliation with CASA.
