Hello Everyone, my name is Dylan Reichard, I am currently studying at Central Michigan University as a Recreational Therapist and I am incredibly excited to share with you why I have embarked on this journey of fundraising. I am running this campaign because I believe in the power of collective action to create meaningful change in the lives of those who need it most. 

Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS), also known as 22q13.3 deletion syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder caused by the deletion or mutation of genes on the terminal end of chromosome 22. Individuals with Phelan-McDermid syndrome typically experience a wide range of developmental delays, including intellectual disability, delayed or absent speech, and motor delays. Other common features may include autism spectrum disorder, low muscle tone (hypotonia), seizures, and distinctive facial features. While the severity of symptoms can vary widely among individuals, early intervention and supportive therapies can greatly improve the quality of life for those affected by Phelan-McDermid syndrome.

Growing up, I have always been passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in my community. However, it was not until my brother Andrew was diagnosed with PMSF that I fully understood the importance of supporting individuals and families with an individual who has a rare disease. Whether it was witnessing my own family struggle or seeing the impact that recreational therapy can have on families and individuals, I have realized that there is so much more we can do as a community to provide the necessary resources and support to these individuals and families. 

That is why I have decided to take action and run this fundraising campaign for the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation. This cause is incredibly close to my heart because this foundation supports families like my own and I have personally seen the impact that the foundation has on not only my brother but my family. I am determined and passionate about doing everything in my power to support their mission. 

Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward the Phelan-McDermid Foundation. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that individuals and families have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
