Camp Heart Connection is Back in 2023!
Camp Heart Connection, a program of Children's Cancer Connection (CCC) based in Iowa, is a wonderful program supporting families with children diagnosed with cancer. Their programs are so amazing for the kids because it is the one place where EVERYONE is able to understand their "new normal" of life affected by cancer.
The best thing about Camp Heart Connection is that CCC doesn't ask for any funds from the families to attend; but this places a heavy burden on supporters of CCC to be able to raise money needed to support this wonderful annual event. That's where you - my friends and family - can help! My goal is to raise enough funds to support an entire cabin at Camp Heart Connection. That's a $5000 goal!!
So, in order to make this more fun, I will be growing a beard for the month of May. For 31 days, the beard will grow and grow and get redder and redder (because I'm a Viking, after all). On June 1, the person or group who donates the most money will get to choose which way I will style my beard for the next week. It could be a fu manchu, a goatee, mutton chops, chin-strap, neck beard, or just a plain old mustache - he/she/they get to decide!! The first time I did it, it was tiger stripes! The next year, a checkerboard! Last time, it was the Batman symbol! What might it be this year?!?
To make it more fun, for every donation I receive I will run a mile. And for every donation over $100, I'll also complete 25 push-ups in honor of my favorite Camper, Jack! While these physical activities are just a minor facsimile of the physical challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis, I'll do my best to keep up with them all in a fun way for all my donors.
For those unfamiliar with the program, Camp Heart Connection is one of Children's Cancer Connection's largest programs. 2023 is an exciting year for CHC as they return to pre-pandemic formatting and activities. Camp programs offer families time to connect with others who truly understand what they're going through and create lifelong memories.
