Mission:
The mission of the Justincredible Foundation is to support mental health and wellness programs for children who have experienced traumatic life experiences.
Overview:
More frequently children are exposed to and impacted by some sort of trauma. The death of a friend or loved one as a result of violence, living in difficult environments, mass shootings, bullying, neighborhood violence, and surviving natural disasters are types of trauma that children in the United States have become familiar with all too well; this is especially true for children that reside in inner city communities across the country. Exposure to trauma has been linked to children’s inability to thrive in the classroom, stifled development of social skills, and significant emotional damage. Dealing with trauma can be difficult, however, expressive art therapies such as music can aid in releasing emotions and processing trauma, allowing children that are suffering the opportunity to find a “voice” and begin the process of recovery (Borczon, 2015).
Realizing that many children who suffer from the effects of traumatic events are in need of resources to take advantage of interventions that aid in the healing process, the Justincredible Foundation is committed to providing inner-city youth with resources to obtain the care needed to address the after effects of trauma through music in support of trauma informed care. The Foundation will use its resources to facilitate or support music programs in schools where children are in need as a trauma informed practice. Additionally, the Justincredible Foundation will provide funding to great organizations like Rainey Institute, a community arts center located in Justin Layne’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio to increase accessibility to music programs. Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their greatest potential; therefore, the Justincredible Foundation is devoted to making that happen.
