On Sunday, March 5, 2023 I will be participating in the 2023 Chicago Polar Plunge! I am SO excited to take on the challenge of the my 2nd Chicago Polar Plunge and jump in to Lake Michigan’s chilly waters to support thousands of athletes that participate in Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children’s Charities programs.
My reason for freezing is my younger sister, Lindsay. Lindsay is not only my sister and best friend, but also my responsibility. In October 2021 I became my sister's sole guardian and co-caretaker, with immense help from my wonderful husband, Branden. Over the past year and half, I have learned SO much about (the lack of) resources available to people with physical, mental and intellectual disabilities - especially as one ages out of school. As my responsibilities changed from supportive sister to guardian, I was astonished how difficult it is to find support, information and community for those with disabilities. Without amazing programs through Special Olympics, my sisters access to fun and learning would have been highly limited. To know me means you understand I am who I am today because I was forunate enough to be Lindsay's older sister and love someone with Autism. Special Olympics changes the lives of many and your support in my Polar Plunge is greatly appreciated!
