In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” J. Serotta

With grateful hearts and enduring love, we honor the life of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend, Robert “Bob” J. Serotta.

Bob was a man of deep devotion to his wife Patty, to his children and grandchildren, to his community, and to his fellow veterans. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, later serving his community through the Schenectady County Legislature and as Commander of the Vibert O’Fryer DAV Chapter 88. Whether organizing events for veterans, helping a neighbor fix what was broken, or building intricate dollhouses and model train sets with astonishing precision, Bob lived a life of purpose, generosity, and quiet strength.

In May 2025, Bob passed away from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare and devastating prion disease. Like so many families affected by CJD, we were unprepared for the speed and severity of this illness. What began as subtle changes progressed rapidly, leaving us facing a diagnosis that few have heard of and for which there is currently no cure.

CJD is a fatal brain disorder caused by misfolded proteins known as prions. It advances quickly, robbing individuals of memory, coordination, independence, and ultimately life itself, often within months. Because it is so rare and difficult to diagnose, families are frequently left searching for answers while navigating overwhelming medical and emotional challenges.

In Bob’s memory, and in honor of the steadfast way he showed up for others throughout his life, we are asking for your support of the CJD Foundation. This organization provides critical support to families, advances research, improves diagnostic tools, and works tirelessly toward better treatments and, one day, a cure.

Bob spent his life helping others, especially veterans, neighbors, and his community. Through this effort, his legacy of service and compassion continues.
