Week 6 Update
I made it! It was a tough week, and though I'm no stranger to the 50,000-word NaNoWriMo target, doing it over six weeks did not make it any easier. But I pushed through and got the words down to meet my target!
This week I’ve written 11,708 words: 10,424 words for my fantasy manuscript and 1284 words for my final flash fiction (that’s the shortest I’ve written. I'm proud!).
My word count tally is:
- Fantasy Manuscript: 38,321 words
- Flash Fiction: 8704 words
- Short Story Reworks: 3799 words
That's a total of 50,824 words!
I’ve learned a lot over these six weeks, met amazing writers and have stories to revise for submissions. Without Discord, the writing sessions, classes and my flash group, it would have been much harder. So I'm sending a big thanks to all the Clarion West staff and those supporting and donating! It's been great!

Week 5 Update
So… I ended up a bit burnt out. I started the week strong and spent days deep in reworks and revision, but that didn’t leave much time to write my flash piece (or add any words to my fantasy novel). But, the essential things are done: my two shorts have been reworked/revised, and my flash piece is complete.
So, I’ve written 5236 words: 3799 new words during revisions and 1437 words for my fifth flash fiction.
I still plan to hit the 50,000-word mark, which means bumping up my daily goal to about 1555 words a day. If I’m feeling particularly brave, I might do more to make up the words I planned in my fantasy novel. We’ll see how it goes with one more week to go! I think I'm due a long sleep now.

Week 4 Update
Week 4 went well! I met my goals without too much struggle (only a few late nights!).
I’ve written 8501 words: 6992 words for my fantasy manuscript and 1509 words for my fourth flash fiction (definitely need to challenge myself to write shorter).
I have an idea for my next flash piece, but it’s still not fully fleshed; I may need a new one if I can’t make it work. Fingers crossed, I can fit the pieces together and have a good Week 5!

Week 3 Update
This week may not have gone as smoothly as Week 2, but I met my goal! (That’s all the counts, right?)
I’ve written 8518 words: 7012 words for my fantasy manuscript and 1506 words for my third flash fiction (and yes, I did go over the 1500 limit by 6 words… oops).
I have an idea for a flash piece with a collective point-of-view. I’m not sure if it can work, but the flash workshop is a good place to try. We’ll see how that goes, and fingers crossed for a smooth week (that requires no late nights)!

Week 2 Update
Much smoother week; the “Writing Stuff” calendar was a great addition!
I’ve written 8413 words: 6920 words for my fantasy manuscript and 1493 words for my second flash fiction.
I have ideas for my next flash piece but still, need to do more brainstorming. I hope to keep up the steady pace and have a smooth Week 3!

Week 1 Update
So… there was a moment of internal questioning. I wondered whether working on my novel draft at the same time as the Flash Fiction Workshop was really a wise idea. But I did pull through!
I have written 8448 words: 1475 words for my flash piece and 6973 (messy) words of fantasy… stuff. No questions about how coherent those 6973 words are, please.
I now have a colourful ‘Writing Things’ calendar telling me what to do. Fingers crossed, each day is bright with green highlighter!
