It's our family's second Heart Walk, and we're excited to celebrate again!
In addition to joining this year's Heart Walk, we marked a very special milestone on March 20, Rory's heart repair anniversary. We gathered with family at a local park to celebrate with two of Rory's favorite things: playtime and donuts. It was incredibly meaningful to commemorate a day we remember so vividly by watching him laugh, play, and make memories with loved ones.
Earlier this summer, Rory had his second annual cardiology checkup, this time at Cleveland Clinic Children's after our move from Cincinnati. He met his new cardiologist and amazed us throughout a full day of testing. From giggling at his "Mr. Bones" X-ray images, to watching Finding Nemo during his echocardiogram, to breezing through his EKG without worrying about the stickers, he approached every test with his signature joy and curiosity. We couldn't have been prouder. His care team repeatedly commented on his patience, positive attitude, and infectious smile throughout the day.
During that visit, we learned that Rory will need a surgery later this September to repair a hernia related to a chest tube incision from his 2024 heart surgery. While it's another hurdle on his journey, we know he'll tackle it with the same strength and spirit he always does. We are so grateful for the love, support, and encouragement that surrounds him.
We can't wait to join so many other heart families at the Heart Walk in a few weeks and celebrate Rory alongside fellow Heart Warriors. Thank you for being part of his story!
Rory's story - in March 2024, at just four months old, Rory underwent open-heart surgery after being diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect, at only five weeks old. Thanks to life-saving medical advancements and the extraordinary care he received at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Rory is thriving today. He’s grown into the most joyful, curious, silly, and resilient little boy—all because that surgery gave him the chance to do so.
Through it all, Rory’s strength—even as a baby—was nothing short of inspiring. We cherish every smile, snuggle, and giggle, knowing how lucky we are to live these everyday moments with him.
The Heart Walk is a chance for us to honor our Heart journey, to celebrate Rory’s strength, and to say thank you—to the doctors, researchers, loved ones, and supporters who made his recovery possible and to the team who will continue to monitor his health. As parents of a Heart Warrior, we’re shapend by this experience, and being a part of this Heart community !
