1 person will die every 6 minutes in the US due to a blood clot. This past year, at 29 years young, I spent 4 months mistaking the pain & swelling in my calf as a pulled muscle before getting diagnosed with a life-threatening blood clot spanning the entire length of my right leg.
Like the majority of the population, not only did I think blood clots were reserved for the elderly, but I was also completely unaware that these clots often mimic the signs and symptoms of pulled muscles.
March is Blood Clot Awareness Month... And for a condition that kills more people every year than AIDS, breast cancer, and car accidents COMBINED... The lack of awareness is not just frightening, it's utterly unacceptable.
By the Grace of God, I am able to share my story with you. Please help me honor those who can't, as I join the Climb for Clots campaign in its efforts to raise awareness and funds for the National Blood Clot Association (NBCA).
Climb for Clots, a virtual stair climbing event designed to raise awareness and funds for the National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA). Our goal is to climb 100,000 stairs for the 100,000+ lives lost each year due to deadly blood clots. All proceeds will benefit NBCA a 501(c)(3), non-profit, voluntary health organization dedicated to advancing the prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots.
