Climb for Clots

100,000 stairs for 100,000 lives!

March is Blood Clot Awareness Month. To celebrate, we're hosting Climb for Clots, a virtual stair climbing event designed to raise awareness and funds for the National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA).  Our goal is to climb 100,000 stairs for the 100,000+ lives lost each year due to deadly blood clots.  All proceeds will benefit NBCA a 501(c)(3), non-profit, voluntary health organization dedicated to advancing the prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and clot-provoked stroke.

Whether you are an avid stair climber or are just looking for a way to get involved with Team Stop the Clot, this challenge is perfect for all fitness levels. There is no minimum to how many stairs you'll need to climb throughout the month of March. Go at your own pace, be a part of our team and make a difference!

There is one registration option after March 1.  Register as a Super Clot Climber ($30)  and take your commitment a step further and register as a fundraising participant. Set up your own personal fundraising page and share with your network!  All participants will receive an e-mail upon registering with additional information including how to track your progress.

If climbing real stairs, you can count the steps or use an app on your smartphone that measures stairs climbed. If you'll be using a stair climbing machine, use whatever tracking measurement works best for you - floors, vertical feet climbed, or number of steps climbed. 1 floor or 10 feet = 15 stairs!

Blood clots do not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity or race.  Quite often, they’re misdiagnosed.  No matter how young or physically fit you may be, you can still be affected.

The startling blood clot statistics tell it all:

  • 1 person will die every 6 minutes in the US due to a blood clot.

  • 274 people in the US will die every day due to a blood clot.

  • Between 600,000 - 900,000 new blood clots are diagnosed annually in the US, with 100,000 deaths related to blood clots. The #'s do not include those who survive but live with complications.

  • Blood clots kill more people every year than AIDS, breast cancer, and car accidentscombined.

Tragically, too many lives are affected by blood clots, and too many lives are lost because public awareness about life-threatening blood clots is so low.  Numerous studies have shown that fewer than 1 in 4 people are aware of the signs and symptoms of blood clots.

Your charitable gift will help NBCA continue our life saving mission to advance prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and clot-provoked stroke.

Together, we can save lives!
