I am participating in this race for a few reasons.
First, I love the CMC - I joined in 2010 and subsequently completed their backpacking and mountaineering schools. In those schools, I met great friends and learned many valuable skills that I continue to use today. I've always loved the outdoors but having the knowledge and hands on practice that I received through CMC made me confident in my abilities in the outdoors. Also, the sense of community that I felt there is unrivalled! Although my work has taken me to PA, CO is my home. I stay up to date with CMC activities and participate as often as I can.
Another big reason is a celebration of ability. In 2016, I tore my peroneal tendon. The next few years were a long process of dealing with re-injury and setbacks in recovery. Last year I finally felt strong enough to do normal hikes and have been back out on the trail since. This is a big goal to match the excitement I feel for being back on the trail again.
Finally, I thought picking the Everest goal would be inspiring to me and hopefully to others. Although some tendon issues have slowed my progress I will complete the Everest challenge, though it will not be in the official race timeframe. Never give up!!
