Hi there! My name is Emily Friedman and I am the Vice President of Programming on Tuesdays for the Valparaiso Chapter of College Mentors for Kids. I am a Junior Psychology major with minors in Education and Humanities. This is my third year in College Mentors. My Freshman year, I was a mentor to a third grader, and in my Sophomore year, I was a General Manager for fourth graders and first graders. I am excited to take on a new leadership role this year! As a VPP, I am responsible for running activity on Tuesdays and communicating with staff and school partners.
My favorite part of College Mentors is seeing the little buddies every week! They are always so full of energy and are ready to learn. We do a lot of cool activities on campus! Their favorites are meetings are with the STEM department for hands-on science experiments in fields like physics, chemistry, biology, and meteorology. We also work with the Office of Multicultural Programs to learn about culture and diversity. My favorite was the craft we did for Dia de los Muertos. Another fun favorite was visiting the Sorority houses on campus to learn about their philanthropies and how little buddies can contribute to community service.
A lot goes into an activity day besides the event we plan. We also provide snack, read books, and journal about our day. With your donation, you can help contribute to our mission of creating interactive activities that broaden the horizons of a child's daily life.
