College Mentors for Kids is a college-student run program where elementary school students are exposed to higher education by pairing children one-­on-­one with a mentor and engaging them in activities on a university campus where they discover the joy of learning and the power of mentoring. Every activity little buddies are asked “connection questions” to encourage critical thinking, accompanied with a skill-builder that reflects different themes, such as positive affirmations, kindness and cultural awareness! 

Why do I love College Mentors for Kids? As a child, I did not have a consistent mentor–outside of family members– that I could look to for guidance. I chose to be a mentor because I want to be someone that can be depended on, trusted and used as a source of encouragement and guidance. Being a mentor, I am not only teaching, but learning as well. My little buddy continues to teach me patience, kindness and connects me with the younger generation. I am so glad I have the privilege to be a leader and a mentor!

In an activity, my Little Buddy–Alex–was asked “Why do you love College Mentors?” Here was her answer: “I love College Mentors because we learn amazing things and I love it because I get to be with my MENTOR. ❤”
