Being a mentor through College Mentors for Kids has made my UVA experience ten times more exciting. I've begun to look forward to Wednesday afternoons where I get to spend time with my Little Buddy, Persie. She is very similar to me; she plays soccer, loves Taylor Swift, and is super sassy. She makes me laugh every week and I'm so grateful for the chance to connect with her. 

College Mentors for Kids connects kids to college students through weekly on-campus activities that inspire growth, confidence, and brighter futures. We've done some pretty fun activities together such as making slime, touring UVA's art museum, playing with hospital equipment, conducting explosive science experiments, and even exploring the basketball stadium. Our upcoming activity theme is community service, and Persie will get to pie me in the face with whipped cream for each donation I receive (how exciting for her!).

The program does an excellent job at expanding the potential career/future opportunities Charlottesville youth are exposed to. The best part of the program, though, is that the Little Buddies are gaining a friend and confidence through mentorship. I've enjoyed making a difference and have had so much fun participating as a mentor.  I can't do all of this without your help, though.
