I didn't have the opportunity for a COBS course until I was 36. My course was a little different than most. It was a long weekend and instead of being with strangers, I was with board members, my then new supervisor, and our Executive Director. After an expedition with a bit of a rough start that led to me learning my body needs electrolytes, I found support from my crew and a profound respect for the staff that make these opportunities possible for our students.

After multiple days of backpacking, learning how to use tarps and treking poles to make shelter, and having some pretty amazing experiences, I wondered what impact an experience like this would have had on my life when I was a teenager.
