This November, I’m walking 26.2 miles around Mission Bay with a goal of raising money for Crisis House, a San Diego nonprofit supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, housing instability, unemployment, and poverty.

I created “Walk in Their Shoes” to raise awareness of the different circumstances that can lead to housing instability, including domestic violence, medical challenges, employment barriers, and lack of transportation. While we cannot truly know what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes, we can choose to walk alongside them by supporting access to practical resources and opportunities for greater stability.

What Can Your Donation Help Make Possible?

• $20 - One Week of Transportation: Help someone get to work, appointments, or essential services for a full week.
• $25 - Hygiene Essentials: Help provide toiletries and personal-care items that restore comfort and dignity during a crisis.
• $35 - Groceries and Meals: Help put food on the table for an individual or family during a difficult stretch.
• $45 - Clothing for a Fresh Start: Help provide clothing for work, interviews, school, or everyday needs.
• $50 - Application Fees and ID Documents: Help cover rental-application fees or identification documents needed to apply for housing and jobs.
• $74 - One Month of Transportation: Help someone reach work, appointments, school, or other essential services for an entire month.
• $250 - Essential Needs: Help provide food, hygiene items, clothing, and other basic necessities during a time of crisis.
