For several years, in the spirit of St. James, I have been putting my faith into action by traveling to Harlan County, KY with Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries (CYFM) to serve our less fortunate brothers and sisters in Christ. Over the years, I have had the tremendous privilege of going with many great friends, and this year I will be going with my father, Gene Fenton. We are very excited to go this year and continue the 27 year effort by CYFM to build up this important community in God's Kingdom. The people of Appalachia have been suffering in poverty for decades, but through it all they have maintained a tremendous faith and have grown into an even more loving and tight-knit community. 

This year members of the CYFM community will be serving in a number of ways. Some members will be running a Vacation Bible School for the children in the area. While, others visit the elderly in a nursing home. Still others will be reaching out to the community with clothes and children’s books. Lastly, my father and I will be working with several others on the homes of Harlan residents. 

This kingdom building work is not easy, but with your help we believe we can make a real difference in the world. We are asking for your support in three important ways. First, and most urgently, we ask for your prayers for us and for the people we will be serving. Second, we are asking you to call attention to the issues affecting our brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those issues affecting children; you can do this by spreading the good news of the service we and others are doing. Third, if you feel so moved, we ask that you support our mission financially; it is not cheap to transport our 85 missionaries to Kentucky nor are the supplies needed to make our mission a success.
