Jaxson is only 5 years old, but he has already been through 5 surgeries. After his most recent surgery, we were finally given the green light and thought we could take a breath and let him just be a kid for a while.
And that’s exactly what he’s been doing.
Jaxson started kindergarten this year and he is thriving. He’s making friends, doing well in school, learning new things and having fun. From the outside, he’s just a happy 5 year old enjoying kindergarten. You would never know that on the inside, his little heart is fighting a battle of its own.
We recently found out that he will need another surgery this winter. This one was completely unexpected, especially after getting the green light from his last surgery.
The surgery will mean time away from school while he recovers. He’ll eventually get to go back to kindergarten and his friends, but for a little while, his focus will have to be on healing and getting stronger.
Jaxson has been through so much already, and somehow he continues to amaze us with how strong and resilient he is.
That’s why we walk.
We walk for Jaxson. We walk for the other heart warriors and their families. We walk for the battles that people can’t always see. And we walk to raise awareness and support research for children living with congenital heart defects.
We all walk to support Jaxson through whatever comes next and to remind him that he is never walking this journey alone.
