It’s Time to Pull Out Your Cape & Tights and Wipeout Poverty!
Every month, hundreds of families find their way to the DESC basement in search of much-needed groceries, clothing, and help covering overdue rent and utilities. With the effects of COVID-19, these stories are becoming increasingly common. Hardships have been spun far and wide. Since reopening in May, more than 35 percent of our families are first-time visitors. Financial assistance with rent and utilities has taken on a greater focus despite official eviction and utility disconnect moratoriums. The needs continue to outstrip available resources.
DESC’s annual fundraiser this year will be a virtual one on August 20, 2020.
