WELCOME TO THE DREAM FACTORY RIVER CITY DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL!

The Dream Factory is proud to be the new partner of the Manitoba Paddling Association to host one of the summer's biggest events: The Dream Factory River City Dragon Boat Festival! Dragon boating is one of Winnipeg's most popular summer events, and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of it!

The festival is a fundraiser for The Dream Factory, a Winnipeg based charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling life- threatening illnesses. We need paddlers and  teams to raise funds and help us to make dreams come true for kids who desperately need a break from hospitals, medical treatments and the very adult challenges that come with serious illness. All funds raised stay in Manitoba to help Manitoba kids.

So, what are you waiting for? Get your team of 20 friends, family, and/or co-workers together and get ready for great fun while helping a great cause! All teams are guaranteed 3 races (weather permitting).

With instruction and race supervision by the Manitoba Paddling Association, safety is a top priority. Boats, paddles and personal floatation devices will be provided, so register your team and get ready for fun! Practice sessions start weekday evenings in early May.

The Top 8 Fundraising Teams will again be recognized in a special feature race.

Grab your credit card and click on the “Sign up today” link (at the top of the page) or the “Register for this event” link (to the right) and register your team today!

Whether you are a long-time dragon boater or have never paddled before - this festival is a great way to have fun and help us to make dreams come true for some very special kids!

Thank you for helping us bring dreams to life!

***all registration fees are used to cover the cost of the festival***

Meet our Dream Kids:

Meet Alex

Alex is a 17-year old who has endured 3 ½ years of treatment while battling cancer and suffering a stroke. Alex was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when he was 13-years old.

Alex's illness didn't stop him from doing what he loves, and while he was undergoing treatment he broke new ground as the first Canadian cadet to complete a gruelling, four-day military training march. Walking 40-kilometres a day for four days he completed the Nijmegen March in the Netherlands.

This summer, Alex is looking forward to his Dream Trip to Italy with his family. He views this trip as an opportunity to say thank you to his family for all of the love and support he received during his battle with cancer.

Meet Lily

Lily is an 8 year old girl battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) – a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. When it came time for Lily to choose her dream, she came in with a plan in mind: meet Hope and Winter, dolphins at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (and the stars of the popular “Dolphin Tale” movies).

Winter is a dolphin that, like Lily, has overcome tremendous odds, losing her tail and having to learn to swim with a prosthetic. Her grandma describes them as an extension of her family – a beacon of hope, and a reminder to keep fighting. She even follows the live webcam to check in on them and see how they are doing.

Meet Ryder

Ryder is a 5-year-old boy facing Infant Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and has been battling this disease since he was 8 months old.

This summer, Ryder’s dream Fire Hall was delivered and it was a day of pure celebration. As a wonderful surprise, The Dream Factory had our new friends from the Stonewall Fire Department join us. They brought Ryder his own turn out gear, fire truck, and (though Ryder was leery at first) a new friend in Sparky the Fire Dog.

Ryder now has somewhere to have adventures, play with his friends, and just be a kid, right in our own backyard. His favourite part of the fire house? The fire pole, of course!
