Raising a child with Down syndrome takes a lot of resources and expertise to make sure that each child can attain their potential.  Lydia is the light of our family, teaching us all so very much.  We want to give her every opportunity we can in life.  We are so thankful to be part of groups like DSAW. 

DSAW sent us support while we were in the hospital with Lydia, helping us with groceries and gas.  They sent parents to come and give us hugs and let us know that they were there for us.  As we have settled at home we have taken advantage of many different opportunities they provide.  Mom's night out is a great time that mom can connect with other moms and unload, refresh, and relax.  It is so encouraging to be around others who get what Down syndrome really means!  DSAW provides conferences to help parents potty train and parent their child more effectively.  This year Lydia was potty trained at just three and a half years old!  Mom also found out why consequences do not mean anything to Lydia.  DSAW also gave the Oakfield school district the entire set of Signing Time to help teachers and peers be able to communicate with Lydia.  Speech grants, pool parties, World Down syndrome day celebrations, loose the training wheels camp, grants for national conferences and many other great opportunities for families like ours.

The walk is so important to our family because DSAW has helped us out in a large way.  Every dollar that is spent stays right in the Fox Cities to help families.  It is so important to have groups like these because they help bridge the gap where the insurance runs out, where schools cannot help, where community support is full.  We have been so blessed to have this group part of our journey with Lydia, she has benefited in many ways.
