James was born in Newport News, Virginia. As a member of a military family, he enjoyed moving almost every year growing up. He has recently transitioned out of the healthcare business moving to Greeley and has begun a career coaching college football full-time. Pazak enjoyed a successful run as a high school, collegiate and professional player. He played cornerback and wide receiver on the Horizon High School 1994 State Championship team. After high school, Pazak continued his athletic career by playing both football and basketball at University of Redlands. He then signed with the Bergamo Lions of the Italian Football League, helping the franchise win the coveted Eurobowl and the Superbowl Italiano. James is married to Tiffany Pazak and they have 3 children together, all boys.
