Please help me support END HEROIN WALK 2020!
As some of you know, I'm in recovery from Substance Use Disorder AKA addiction. I've lost too many friends and acquaintences to addictions of all sorts, including opiates. I also know plenty of people who are still struggling - many of whom don't yet realize they have a problem - or who have relapsed. You may know someone who is suffering from this disorder. Perhaps you are also suffering from being around this person or trying desperately to help them. Or perhaps you are addicted to opiates or another substance or behavior and suffering greatly.
THERE IS HOPE!
Millions of people in the US alone are living a better life, free of the suffering of active addiction. I attend Recovery Dharma meetings here in Birmingham as well as an occasional 12-step meeting. While I practice my program of recovery to keep myself on track, I also do it to help others suffering with addiction. It's in that spirit that Recovery Dharma Birmngham is supporting and raising funds for END HEROIN BHAM WALK 2020 and the Addiction Prevention Coalition.
The Walk is completely free. If you would like a T-shirt, Lanyard with 'Walking for' Card, you will need to register. A portion of all Walk proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for substance abuse treatment.
PLEASE come walk with us AND/OR donate what you can to help raise resources for those in need as well as to help prevent more people from becoming addicted. If you cannot walk, no problem. Your financial contribution IN ANY AMOUNT would be much appreciated!
ABOUT MY TEAM: RECOVERY DHARMA
Recovery Dharma is a peer-led movement using Buddhist practices and principles to overcome addictions of all kinds through meditation, self-inquiry, and community. We offer a complete program of recovery, including our own literature and five weekly meetings in the Birmingham area. We welcome those new to recovery as well as those who practice other recovery programs (12-step, SMART, etc). Some of our members choose to practice only our program, while others find our approach to be a helpful supplement to their main program of recovery. ALL ARE WELCOME!
MEETINGS: Fridays@6pm, Sundays@6:30pm (Shambhala Center) & Saturdays@10:30am, Mondays@6pm, Wednesdays@7pm (C3 at Moore Institute)
