I am walking in honor of my Mom, Pat Morgan (fondly referred to as Patty Cakes, Mumsy, or Pat to those who loved her.) She was the most wonderful person to know - a strong woman who faithfully took care of her children, in-laws, and pretty much anyone in the neighborhood and beyond when they needed help. She knew the value of friendship and human connection and was the kindest person to every person she met - young or old. She also made it a point to volunteer and help elders at nursing homes on a regular basis, treating them to holiday parties, Christmas gifts and singalongs. And talk about social butterflies! I know she would be proud of the work I am doing with FriendshipWorks to reduce elder isolation throughout Boston. I'm walking so that other elders who might be feeling alone or forgotten are able to find a true friend. I'm walking because all of us as humans need connections and joy in our lives, and that is what FriendshipWorks does!
Join me at this year's Elderbration and Walk to End Elder isolation on May 21, and walk with Team Patty Cakes! You can walk in memory of someone you love, or walk in honor of your favorite friend - young or old. Let's make sure those who don't have family living close by, or those who don't have a strong social network, are able to find friendship and support through FriendshipWorks.
