300+ Days in a Kennel to Endless Adventures- Cleo's Rey Fido Fundraising Campaign
This is Cleo — or as I like to call her, Cleodora, Cleodore Roosevelt, or Cleo Von. She’s about seven years old and one of the happiest, goofiest, most loving dogs I’ve ever met.
Before I found her, Cleo spent more than 300 days at the San Antonio Humane Society. That was after already being in another shelter before that. She was one of the longest residents there, and somehow, through all that waiting, she never lost her smile. Everyone at the Humane Society loved her — the staff, the volunteers, everyone who met her — but for reasons no one could really explain, she kept getting overlooked.
When I met her, she ran right up to me with that giant grin and a tail that wouldn’t stop wagging. I knew instantly she was coming home with me. Since then, she’s become my best friend and constant companion. She loves long walks, meeting new people, exploring new places, and when the day is done, curling up for a nap right next to me.
I don’t know why it took her so long to find a home, but I do know I’m grateful it was me who finally got to give her one. She’s the perfect balance of energy and calm, playful and gentle, silly and sweet.
Cleo’s story is a reminder of how powerful adoption can be. There are so many animals like her — patient, loyal, and full of love — just waiting for someone to give them a chance. You might think you’re saving them, but more often than not, they end up saving you.
Cleo is now representing the San Antonio Humane Society in the Rey Fido Campaign, raising money to help other shelter pets get the same second chance she did. Every donation supports food, care, medical treatment, and love for animals who are still waiting for their own happy ending.
If you can, please consider donating to Cleo’s campaign or even just sharing her story. It only takes one person to change a dog’s life forever.
Cleo says thank you — and if you could see her right now, her smile is wide as ever.

Biscuit, a handsome 1-year-old Retriever Mix, was brought to us as a stray at the beginning of March. Upon his arrival, our Medical Team examined his health and discovered that he was suffering from Elbow Incongruency, a condition where the bones of the elbow joint don’t align properly. This condition can cause severe pain, affecting their ability to walk and stand properly.
Thanks to the incredible team at our Leeu Naylor Medical Building, Biscuit was able to undergo surgery to correct the issue and begin a carefully managed recovery plan. During his two-month medical stay, he made remarkable progress! Now, his loving forever family is giving him the extra-special care he needs to finish healing—so before long, he’ll be back to running, jumping, and playing like himself again.
Meet the adorable and tenacious Bungee! Bungee, a 5-month-old Terrier mix, was found as a stray and brought in by a kind member of the community. Upon intake, our medical team noticed that both of his front legs were badly injured. This prompted an X-ray, which revealed they were both broken, meaning a long road to recovery for little Bungee.
Bungee underwent surgery at our Leeu Naylor Medical Building, where he received plates and pins in both front limbs to ensure he could have a full range of mobility once healed. Bungee was such a resilient pup throughout his strict recovery, where he had to spend lots of time resting in his kennel with splints and bandages on his legs.
Even throughout his recovery, Bungee’s bright personality never faded. True to his name, this energetic pup loves to bounce around and spread joy wherever he goes. Now healed and thriving, he’s putting his strong legs to good use—filling his new forever home with endless fun and playfulness.
