New Performing Arts Center

The performing arts have been part of Bishop Amat High School since we opened our doors.  In January, 1958, the Bishop Amat Thespians entered the high school drama festival sponsored by Immaculate Heart College and produced “By the Grace of God”.  Since that time, more than a hundred plays and musicals have been performed by the students of Bishop Amat High School.  These productions were held in the gymnasium, in Kiefer Stadium, at the Duarte Performing Arts Center, the Whittier Theater, and in the PAB on the Bishop Amat campus.

Currently our dance, choral, and theater arts programs are housed in a 2500 square foot concrete box-like structure built two decades ago as a “temporary” location for their activities.  The inadequacies of the current facilities seriously inhibit our ability to offer a more advanced performing arts program.

The addition of a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center will enhance the high school experience for our entire student body.  This much needed Center will allow Bishop Amat students the opportunity to build their self-confidence, express their creativity, improve their communication skills, and learn to work collaboratively with others.  In today’s world, these are important life-skills attributes.

Our students deserve a dedicated space that enhances their growth in the visual and performing arts.  This Center will provide that opportunity and much more.

We ask you to consider joining us in providing our students with this much needed facility.

Msgr. Aidan M. Carroll, President.

The Importance of the Arts

Encore Amat

The students at Bishop Amat High School deserve to have a permanent home for their visual and performing arts programs.  The construction of the new Performing Arts Center will provide many benefits to the school and surrounding community by:

  • Facilitating the growth of the Bishop Amat Visual and Performing Arts programs
  • Attracting new students to the school and to the band, choral, drama and dance programs
  • Providing our students with a wonderful venue in which to state their productions
  • Providing space for multiple performing groups to practice simultaneously
  • Providing an auditorium for assemblies, registration sessions, class Masses, and other school activities
  • Facilitating the expansion of curricular offerings
  • Eliminating the expense and inconvenience of taking productions off-campus
  • Allowing community partners, in particular Catholic elementary schools and parishes, to stage their productions in our Center
