I am a mother who lost my 34 year old son on July 2, 2016, to a heroin overdose. He was a bright, handsome young man with a great sense of humor. He loved mathematics and wanted to become a physicist. He had many friends and had begun to reach out to others he knew and did not know, to try to help in any way he was able to.
His struggle with drugs began in his teen years. His addiction, like so many others, began from the use of opioid pain killers. He had been through numerous rehab programs, but it wasn’t until he submitted his life to the Lord that he ever succeeded at staying clean for any length of time. He had been clean for almost two years before he relapsed and was found three days later dead from a Heroin overdose.
My purpose for walking to raise money for this cause is to try to help prevent others from ever experiencing this same tragedy and loss of precious life. I believe the best way to combat the possibility of addiction is through prevention. Knowledge is Power! The more informed one becomes the better one can make a decision as to whether or not it is worth the risk.
