Dear Friends,

As we get ready to turn the page on another year, many of us are setting goals and resolutions — to be more intentional, to live with greater purpose, to make an impact that lasts. What if one of the most meaningful resolutions you could make this year is to change someone else’s story?

Amberlee was raised by her grandmother, who loved her deeply and provided for her basic needs as a child. But when she turned eighteen, she longed for independence and decided to leave home. What she found instead was heartbreak, addiction, and instability. For years, she lived in survival mode, trapped in a cycle of pain and fear that left her feeling hopeless and alone.

Homelessness became her reality with two small children. She had nowhere safe to go. Each setback brought more shame and uncertainty. “I wasn’t whole after all that happened to me,” she said. Her story mirrors what so many men and women in our community face — homelessness compounded by addiction, trauma, and a deep longing for change.

But everything shifted when she found House of Refuge Sunnyslope. At first, Amberlee didn’t pass the drug test required to enter the program. Still, she came back, determined to try again. “I wanted to change,” she said. “I just needed someone to believe in me.” After a clean drug screen she was welcomed home.

At House of Refuge Sunnyslope, Amberlee found more than housing. She found community, structure, accountability, and the love of Christ. Over time, she began to heal. “For the first time in my adult life,” she shared, “I experienced consistency, a routine, peace, and purpose.” Today, Amberlee is thriving. She’s sober, employed, caring for her children and building a stable life in her own apartment.

Each month, more than 120 residents across our campus of 9 dorms, 6 houses, and 32 apartments are being loved, housed, and equipped through our program. This is what your giving makes possible.

It takes about $1,000 per month to fully support one resident — covering safe housing, case management, recovery support, spiritual mentorship, and life-skills training.

That means it takes $120,000 each month to provide this direct care for the individuals we serve.

Today, you can help men, women, and children at House of Refuge Sunnyslope find stability, purpose, and renewed hope through Christ. Every gift helps provide safe housing, guidance, and the foundation needed for lasting transformation.

And if you live in Arizona, your donation also qualifies for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, a dollar-for-dollar credit on your state taxes, up to $495 if single or $987 if married filing jointly. Simply let your tax preparer know that your gift to House of Refuge Sunnyslope (QCO Code: 20047) qualifies. It’s a powerful way to give hope while also receiving a tangible benefit.

Together, we can make 2026 a year filled with restoration, renewal, and hope.

In Christ,

Kelly Fine
