Eliminating MS on Mt Elbrus

In July 2022, I will be traveling to Southern Russia to climb Mt. Elbrus!! Mt. Elbrus is a dormant volcano located near the border with Georgia and Russia and loams over both countries at 18,510 ft. During this multi day climb, I will be pushed both physically and mentally to conquer Mt. Elbrus, through the cold conditions and altitude. As I climb, I will hold two special ladies and one great cause in my mind as inspiration.

I will be climbing as a fundraiser for the Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York City with a goal of $18,510- a dollar for every foot!

Why I Climb?

TISCH MS Research Center in NYC holds a special place in me and my husband, Mark’s, heart. 

My mother, Gerri, was diagnosed with Secondary-Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1999. Mark’s mom, Susan, was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 2012. Our families are eternally grateful for the care and treatment they have received from Dr. Sadiq and his team at the Tisch MS Center NYC.  Their passion and commitment to find the cure for MS is unequalled and will inspire me as I take on this challenge.  

For them- I  climb. I aim to ascend to great heights, wishing that they had the choice to do the same. Pushing myself physically and mentally as I train, reminds me of the challenges that they go through on a daily basis.  I realize that this climb represents only a fraction of the challenge they face every day, and am grateful to be blessed with the ability to take on the challenge of Mt. Elbrus.

Who am I climbing with?

WHOA!  Women High on Adventure is an all-women’s travel company and is perfect for adventurous women looking to step outside of our comfort zones and take on the world! WHOA focuses on positive impact travel since every adventure involves giving back by connecting with local women. I traveled with this company in 2018 to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. I was inspired by the beauty of this country and the warm hearts of its people. As we hiked with our all women’s crew, positive energy, encouragement and laughter fueled us to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The power of this trip and the WHOA travel community ignited my desire to travel to Russia and conquer Mt. Elbrus!
