Why I'm Going Over the Edge for the Flynn

I am going Over the Edge because I was inspired by my teammate, Sara McMahon, and her work with the Movement for Parkinson's class here at the Flynn.  I am inspired by the bravery and grit of our Movement for Parkinson's students. Two years ago, I promised that I was a "one and done" Edger. Last year, I was too skittish to even watch my co-workers and friends go over! But that is the power of someone like Sara McMahon. As soon as she told me she was going over to celebrate a milestone birthday and that she was doing it in honor of the Movement for Parkinson's class, I was in trouble. So, sorry mom, sorry spouse, I'm going over again! The Movement for Parkinson's class is offered at no cost to participants, and focuses on ameliorating symptoms through rigorous dance techniques. The class has formed a tight knit community, and they are also a dance troupe, performing around the region. If you come see Sara and I rappell on the morning of August 31, you may just get to see the class in action...ssshhh..it's a surprise...

Please make a donation to my fundraising page and then join me downtown on Saturday, August 31 as I rappel nine stories.

Help me reach my goal and support the cultural and education programs at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts!

Flynn Arts

  • Last Fall, 240 students attended weekly dance, music and theater classes and over $6,500 was awarded in scholarships to students. It is exciting to see the variety of workshops and classes being offered. There is truly something for all ages.

Student Matinee Series

  • A series of 30+ per year matinees serve approximately 38,000 children per year in grades PreK-12 from within a 120-mile radius.
  • Support of the matinees allows ticket prices to be at the lowest accessible access point and to offer free tickets to those students with high need. Last year, 7,100 students attended for free!
  • Support also allows the Flynn  to reach out to rural and underserved schools, providing tickets and bussing support, thereby equalizing access for students from communities that have fewer opportunities to experience the arts.
