Join Teaching Artist Angelica Davila for a poetry workshop designed to introduce students to blackout poetry, which is a type of erasure poetry using existing text like newspaper articles, pages from a book, letters, and many more. We will discuss what types of texts can be used in blackout poetry, as well as how blackout poetry is used as a tool to subvert and reclaim power, and as a tool for questioning and understanding the world around us. Participants will be guided through creating their own blackout poem and how they can incorporate blackout poetry into their own wellbeing, including other creative ways to engage with a found text.
