Synergy can happen when good people are shown a worthy cause, and feel they can make a great difference together.

The Foundation for Geauga Parks has been a worthy cause for me since 1990.  Formerly known as the Geauga Parks Foundation, its mission is to raise funds for all of the parks (State, Township, or local) in Geauga County to supplement their tax revenue by providing funds for nature education (including transportation of school kids), trail improvements, its Skywatchers Club (for which we raised money to purchase telescopes that can be checked out after some training from county libraries, and used with oversight by the Geauga County Astronomical Society), as well as serious fundraising for major improvements in Geauga Parks. We’ve leveraged the support we’ve been able to secure by sharing the mission, and showing the passion of our members, with the great Park District staff, and interested citizens who have benefitted from the improvements we’ve invested-in.  This in turn has allowed us to secure support from even greater numbers of people.

This year, we were forced to cancel our annual fundraising event, the Twilight Soiree, due to the pandemic, so have created “The Geauga County Trail Challenge:  Run, Walk, Ride”, a virtual event that will run through the entire month of October.  By the way, Ride can be bike or horseback.  I’ve formed a team, which I’m inviting you to join, in order to leverage my contribution to this event with others.

My personal goal is to run 20 miles per week over the month of October, hopefully in many of our parks. I am inviting you to pledge whatever support you can to the team, to help me raise the team goal.  Further, if you want to buy a commemorative T-shirt, go to the store (see above). or if  you register to do any activity that will challenge you in October.  In the spirit of parks, consider the great outdoors with its fresh air as an additional benefit and opportunity.
