For the 2021 race, we are currently offering two different registration options, either Virtual or In-Person. Please review the full details of each event to determine which race option is the best fit for you. Participants will receive the same race items and fundraising incentives no matter which registration option is selected.
Our current plans are based off of our most-current understandings of all health and safety recommendations, and we reserve the right to adjust the parameters of the race in order to protect the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and staff members.
Virtual Options are OPEN through Saturday, April 24!
A virtual race is almost exactly the same as an in-person race, but instead of running along the same course, participants can complete the 5/10 kilometers anywhere they choose. You can race against your treadmill, take your laps around the neighborhood, or walk your dog for the day! The possibilities are endless, and YOUR 5K/10K route is up to you!
All virtual participants will receive the race t-shirt and finisher medal, and there are still opportunities for placement medals if the virtual participant will be self-submitting their own time.
Links to self-submit times and photos will be set to participants as the race date approahes. All participants must complete their run and submit their race time between Saturday, April 17th and Saturday, April 24th.
Participants will receive further instruction as the race date approaches, and will be given their specific wave start time by Thursday, April 15. All participants that are waiting for their wave to begin will be asked to wait in their vehicles until it is close to their check-in time. There will be no post-race festival or gathering, and race results will be shared the following Monday.
All participants will select their method of delivery for their race materials (t-shirt and medal) during the registration process. Additional details will be communicated as needed depending on the option selected.
The following options are available:
+ Ship to Me (Available to all participants registered by April 4)
Please note if selecting "Ship to Me" after April 5, your race materials may not arrive until AFTER April 17.
+ Drive-Thru Packet Pick-Up on Thursday, April 15th from 10AM-7PM at Northern Illinois Food Bank's West Suburban Center (273 Dearborn Court, Geneva, IL 60134)
+ Pick-Up at Event Day Location on Saturday, April 17th at Cantigny Park (1 S 151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, IL 60189)
+ Opt-Out and do not wish to receive the participant materials
Awards will be given based on the times recorded by on-course chip timing or by self-submitted times. Awards will be presented to the top male and female overall finishers in each designated category.
New This Year: awards to recognize our Top Fundraising Teams & Individuals!
At the In-Person race, all participants will be chip-timed on the course and this time will be used for awards consideration.
In-Person Awards will be announced on Monday, April 19th.
At the Virtual race, participants will be responsible for recording their own race time. This can be number with a number of Running/Fitness Apps (examples: Map My Run, Strava, etc.), or with a watch or other timing device.
All participants must complete their run and submit their race time between Saturday, April 17th and Saturday, April 24th.
Virtual Awards will be announced on Monday, April 26th.
Be sure to wear your race shirts and snap some photos! You can use #FightHunger5K10K when posting them on social media.
There will also be a photo contest available to all participants. Participants will be emailed a link to where they can submit their photos, and then after the event, five photos will be chosen to win a FREE registration for the 2022 Fight Hunger 5K/10K race!
The Fight Hunger 5K/10K Team is committed to providing a safe racing experience for all participants. Please see a few of the ways that we plan to prioritize the wellness of our participants, volunteers, & staff.
Participants are required to wear a mask if they are attending the In-Person race on Saturday, April 17th.
Participants must wear their face covering in all spaces where guests are congregating, including but not limited to: Registration, Merch Pick-Up, & Restrooms.
Anyone not adhering to the race's face mask policy will be asked to leave the race site.
We are planning to review all aspects of our event to ensure that all proper safety precautions are followed.
These can include, but are not limited to:
Staggered Registration check-in times
Limited volunteers & staff
Barriers at booths & tables
Routine disinfecting of common-use items or surfaces
All plans for the In-Person and Virtual race events are subject to change if necessary to promote the health and safety of all involved parties, based on all required & recommended practices at the time.
If the In-Person race faces a need to cancel the on-site race event, all registered In-Person participants will be automatically transferred into the Virtual race category.
The Fight Hunger 5K/10K Team commits to notify participants regarding any relevant updates in a timely manner.
