Ansley first visited Tanzania in 2016 with Young Life following her freshman year of high school. It was during this trip, spent between Arusha and Landanai (a rural Maasai village in Tanzania) that she first witnessed the major discrepancies in access to clean water and sanitation that exist in so much of our world. Stirred by her love for her new friends in Tanzania and a newfound awareness of the global water crisis, she grew curious and passionate about what could be done to combat these issues.
This led to Ansley's return to Tanzania in 2019, during which she helped to fundraise and deliver more portable water filters, while also gathering information on the circumstances of clean water insecurity in Landanai. With a heart only more devoted to this community, she set off for college with an eagerness to go further in helping.
In the spring of 2020, despite the COVID pandemic, Ansley founded The Maji Project—a student organization at Florida State University aimed at addressing the global water crisis through awareness, service, and fundraising initiatives. Four years later, the Maji Project continues to thrive at FSU, as exemplified by this very fundraiser. And while Ansley can no longer be a member of the Maji Project, as she has since graduated and is living in Spain, she remains committed to the cause and now hopes to help by incorporating another of her passions - running!
With this, Ansley will be running the Madrid Full Marathon on April 28th of 2024 to raise funds for more portable water filters to be delivered to Tanzania in the Summer of 2024. You can join Ansley in this effort in a multitude of ways:
