These days, it can sometimes feel like I am jumping from email to Instagram, from TikTok to Twitter, from notification to Netflix. Am I using screens too much? Aren't we all?
The powers of "the book" are many: it can teach, it can amuse, it can create shared culture. It can also give its reader the opportunity for the deep and complex understanding of a person, place or idea like no other medium in human history.
This July, I'm challenging myself to read -- not for the purpose of entertainment -- but for the purpose of learning about and understanding the diverse experiences of another human being. I hope that the written manifestation of their experiences will give me a new perspective on my own.
