Why I'm Involved in the Club...

Very few Boys & Girls Clubs have preschool programs, and I feel lucky to be part of one. Like the larger organization, Great Futures Preschool is a non-profit program. We are passionate about providing quality child care to as many children as we can reach; our preschool offers a sliding scale for families who cannot afford the full cost of our program. Some members are able to receive quality child care for just $64 per month, despite the high cost of running our school, because we believe that all children deserve great futures.

As Bill Gates said, “the first five years have so much to do with how the next eighty turn out.” The brain is rapidly developing during the first five years of a child’s life. This is a critical time for laying strong foundations in social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development. These skills are essential for a child’s future success in all aspects of life.

The importance of early learning programs cannot be over-stated—their benefits are proven and enduring. Children who attend preschool are ready to learn when they enter kindergarten; studies have shown that they perform better academically, are less likely to drop out of high school, and are more likely to go to college. Similar studies have shown that those who attended early learning programs are less likely to become teen parents, need government assistance, or be arrested for a violent crime.

Many children who “graduate” from our preschool go on to join The Club’s afterschool programs for a safe, affordable place to go during critical out-of-school time. The Club provides these children with positive role models, homework help, scholarships, and enrichment in art, science, technology, and sports. This is the place kids go to develop friendships with other youth, learn resiliency, and gain confidence in themselves and their futures.

• There are 96 languages spoken in Bellevue School District and every child has a voice at the Boys & Girls Club.
• Currently, there are hundreds of kids who are not able to access the club’s services because we lack the scholarship funds to open the doors for those kids this year.
• The need is greater than ever. The Club serves 60,000 meals and snacks each year and your support will make sure kids continue to have a stable food source.
