I am taking on a big challenge this November: the New York City Marathon.  In addition to pursuing this as a personal goal, I am also part of a team running with a purpose…to support the Zambezi Elephant Fund based in Zimbabwe in southern Africa.

My family developed a relationship decades ago with conservation leaders in Zimbabwe, which boasts of the second-largest population of African elephants on the continent. In 2015, when these elephants were especially under threat due to illegal poaching, these same friends helped form the Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF) as a collaborative, supportive initiative specifically to address the alarming rise of poaching and habitat loss in the Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe.  Today, the Zambezi Elephant Fund’s impact is widening to ensure lasting and scalable change across the Zambezi Valley’s beautiful elephant rangelands.  And the goals of ZEF have expanded over time beyond simply conservation to community development, youth education, and economic growth for the people of Zimbabwe.  For more information, please visit https://www.zambezielephantfund.org/.
