From a young age, I've always been fascinated by animals, but elephants have held a special place in my heart. Their intelligence, deep family bonds, and sheer presence make them some of the most remarkable creatures on Earth.

In 2022, I spent eight unforgettable weeks travelling across Southern Africa, exploring Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. Seeing elephants in the wild was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.

Watching these gentle giants move freely across the landscapes they have called home for thousands of years gave me a newfound appreciation for both their beauty and their importance to the ecosystem.

In January 2027, shortly after the marathon, my fiancée and I will return to Africa for our wedding in Cape Town and to continue exploring a continent that means so much to us. It feels meaningful to support a cause that helps protect the wildlife and landscapes that have given us many incredible memories.

Sadly, elephants across the Zambezi Valley continue to face significant challenges, including habitat loss, poaching, and increasing human-wildlife conflict as growing communities and wildlife compete for space and resources. The work of the Zambezi Elephant Fund helps create a future where both elephants and local communities can thrive together.

This marathon will be my fourth, having previously completed Berlin, Rome and London. However, this one will be the most special by far and, from everything I've heard, the most challenging too.

Firstly, I'll be running on my birthday, and secondly, I feel incredibly honoured to be taking on this challenge while supporting a cause I truly care about.
