What is Hunger?

Welcome to Temple Beth Ami

Manna Food Center is dedicated to a single mission: eliminating hunger in Montgomery County, Maryland, through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Since 1983, Manna has been fighting hunger, feeding hope, and helping individuals transition from scarcity to stability.

This High Holy Day season, from Rosh Hashanah through Sukkot, we are proud to continue our long-standing tradition of supporting Manna Food Center by collecting food and raising financial resources to help those in need. As Montgomery County’s designated food bank, the success of the Harvest Against Hunger food drive plays a critical role in Manna’s ability to continue to serve individuals and families throughout the community.

In the past two years alone, Harvest Against Hunger has contributed over 31,600 pounds of food and more than $15,000 to our neighbors in need! As costs for food, housing, healthcare, utilities, and transportation continue to rise, many of our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet.

Today, the need is greater than ever: 1 in 3 Montgomery County residents faces food insecurity, marking a significant increase from the previous statistics of 1 in 12 in 2022 and 1 in 15 in 2019.

Through purchasing partnerships with local farmers, wholesalers, and distributors, Manna can stretch our donations a bit further, but we are counting on our community to help repair the world through Tikkun Olam and participating in this annual event! Our contributions and in-kind donations will help Manna meet the needs of our neighbors in need.
