Three years ago, I started working for my friend Fr. Michael Greco, who is a member of the Capuchin Franciscan friars based in White Plains, NY. I took on a new responsibility this year --chairing our Heart & Sole Walk-A-Thon fundraiser on June 15th to raise money for our summer service programs. Approximately 85 teens and adults participate in these programs each year, building beds for children, visiting the elderly and sick and working with low-income families in the Hudson Valley and in Appalachia to improve their quality of life. We need to raise $25,000 to fund these efforts.
“In our own country families are struggling, and we’re giving people a chance to help,” shared Fr. Michael, OFM Cap., who is the Development Director for the province. “$100 will help our outreach team provide clothing and household supplies for 2 families, $120 buys plywood to make a set of bunkbeds for siblings, and $500 will replace a hot water heater.”
