I began my career in education at Blue Sky Fund. Nothing beats the wonder I saw in my 4th and 5th grade students' faces while learning science outside. My experience there underscored the privilege it is to be able to spend time outside, where unexpected discoveries so often inspire scientific inquiry. Blue Sky Fund breaks down barriers that prevent Richmond youth from experiencing the joys of nature and I hope to help them in their mission by fundraising for their upcoming Hike for Kids event on October 21st.
Blue Sky provides over 42,000 hours of outdoor time for 2,000 Richmond youth, 79% of whom come from under-resourced. communities and a majority of whom identify as youth of color. Through resilience building, leadership development, and outdoor science education, they work to advance equity in the outdoors by developing diverse groups of environmental stewards and leaders in our community.
