Hike With Your Heart celebrates the transforming impact that having a caring family has on a child growing up alone. Join our hike, honor the idea of family, invite your friends to hike with you, or just help you reach your fundraising goal. Nothing makes a difference in a young person’s life like having a family!

Participants raise funds -- as individuals or part of a team -- to support the thoughtful work of giving older youth in foster care a voice and a choice in who becomes their family.

HOW IT WORKS

• Register ($20) and donate more if you can! 
• Create your own fundraising webpage to raise money for Kidsave. (We’ve made it easy!)
• Set a fundraising goal ($500 to $2,000 suggested.)
• Invite friends to hike and/or help you reach your goal!
• Come and hike on October 7th!

NOTE TO HIKERS:  It’s hard to believe that the beltway is less than a mile away when you’re standing on the tranquil shores of Lake Accotink Park. This 476-acre park offers a chance to enjoy the natural resources of Lake Accotink and Accotink Creek. Hikers of all skill levels are welcome. The 3.9-mile trail is wide, shady, and pretty smooth -- more like a good long walk than a hike.  Dogs on leashes and strollers are welcome.  A dramatic “spillway” and a huge, high railroad trestle make our meeting spot -- next to the large, free parking lot --easy to find.  Bring your water bottle! Some water and granola bars will be provided.  Lake Accotink Park also has picnic areas, mini-golf and a carousel so, bring your own lunch if you like and relax at the lakeside after the hike!  No food will be available to purchase onsite. The hike is on rain or shine.

DIRECTIONS

From DC: Take the 14th Street Bridge south. Go south on I-395. Take the Edsall Road west exit. Turn left onto Backlick Road. Turn right onto Highland St. Just after Atteentee Road veer right onto Accotink Park Road. Watch for the entrance to the park on left. Pass the park offices and go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot.

From Arlington/Alexandria. Take Backlick Road south. Turn Right onto Highland St., just after Atteentee Road veer right onto Accotink Park Road. Watch for the entrance to the park on left.   Pass the park offices and go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot.

From the north and west on the Beltway: 495 toward Richmond. Take the Braddock Road exit east.   Turn left onto Backlick Road. Turn right onto Highland St. Just after Atteentee Road veer right onto Accotink Park Road. Watch for the entrance to the park on left. Pass the park offices and go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot.

From the east on the Beltway:  Take I-495 west. Take exit 169A south toward 395 South. This becomes Backlick Rd. Go 1.4 mi. Continue on Backlick Rd. Turn left onto Highland St . Just after Atteentee Road veer right onto Accotink Park Road. Watch for the entrance to the park on left.   Pass the park offices and go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot.
