Hi, my name is Gus Silverstrom and I am raising money for my Bar Mitzvah community service project.  I feel bad for the homeless because they don’t have a place where they can feel safe and can live.   They might have lost their home because their rent got too high, or they can’t get a job, or the landowner kicked them off their property, or they have an addiction and spent too much money on drugs and couldn’t pay the rent, or they got sick and didn’t have health insurance, so it used up all of their money.

My Torah portion recounts 40 years of the step-by-step journey Moses took to lead the Israelites from Egypt to Canaan, where they were going to divide the land amongst the tribes.  Walking for one day is a really easy thing for me to do to help people find a place of their own and food to eat and to bring them happiness.  I have a home and food and I’m happy.  I want the homeless to feel happy, too.
