Two wars tore through Chechnya during the 1990s and into the following decade, destroying the region’s economy, job market, and civil infrastructure. Since 2000, the economic situation in Chechnya has improved considerably, but humanitarian aid is still vital.

Areas of need in Chechnya:

• 50% of Chechens live in poverty. (UNICEF, 2017)
• 200,000 people across the country are internally displaced. (UNICEF, 2017)
