In 2008,  my Uncle Avi Karesh donated Bone marrow and saved a life. Just two years later, in 2010, Avi was tragically diagnosed with cancer himself and needed a life saving donation. Luckily Gift of Life was there to provide him with a donor. Unfortunately, in August of 2016 Avi passed away. The world lost an amazing person who made everyone around him smile. Anyone who knew Avi had the immediate understanding of his passion for chesed and helping others. Anytime someone needed help, Avi was there. He embodied that commitment as donor, recipient and Executive board member for Gift of Life. Since Avi has passed away, I have been looking for a way to give back and channel that same energy. While spending my year in Israel I have the unique opportunity to run the Jerusalem Marathon with Gift of Life. Every step I take will be in Avi’s memory and every donation received will go to a cause that Avi was so passionate about, Gift of Life.
